Amyra since 1999

For fashion designer Preeti Ghai, fashion means an attitude with intrinsic aesthetic value. “Each outfit in my studio carries a message and memory. My designs come from my heart as I design each piece to develop a special bond,” she says.

The designer diva and a social activist with a timeless label ‘Amyra’, Preeti Ghai’s collection epitomises a new kind of sophistication for today’s self-conscious woman. “Between the girl and her ensemble and every creation should reflect the spirit of time,” claims Preeti Ghai.

She is perfect in extracting the emotions of Indian culture and combining it with western sensibilities. Her ensemble presents eternal felinity draped in lush classism. Her journey into creative world was not planned. Hailing from a family of professionals, Preeti Ghai is associated with many NGOs such as ‘Bachpan Bachao’ and ‘Prayas’ to name a few. Recently she tied up with ‘Urja’ which is a beautiful cause for creating light.

“Since my childhood, I was passionate about dressing myself and dressing others. The passion for dressing went hand-in-hand with my studies. I have studied Masters in Business Administration but my sense of designing and styling people was winning admiration all along,” she said.

In 1999, Preeti Ghai was formally placed in the world of fashion. Her exhibition in London was a complete sell out. She bought a boutique with that money and started her journey.

“God has been very kind to me. My journey has been smooth so far,” she says.

Preeti Ghai truly enjoys her work which involves interacting with various customers, playing with colours and getting inspired.

“Basically if your passion becomes your job then it’s truly amazing. I love my work. Though the work pressure is challenging, it helps me to perform better,” she says.

Preeti gives credit to her family, her husband and parents-in-law for always standing by her in her days of struggle. “My mother-in-law looked after my children so that I could have smooth client meetings and go to unit easily. I am blessed with a beautiful joint family and they are my biggest strength,” she proudly declares.
Preeti feels proud also over doing a fashion show with actor Vidya Balan who adorned her creation. There has been no looking back since then. She has done outfits for most of Bollywood actresses, prominent political personalities, Miss Worlds and the list is really big.

Preeti Ghai’s ultimate aim is to make a difference with her talent. She wants to revive a few fabrics and give them their due. She strongly feels that India is super rich with various organic fabrics with some of them being still hidden. This is where she is working on a mission mode. The unexplored fabrics need to be shown to passionate customers who can value them. This would help the weavers and artisans get their due.

Preeti Ghai has sought the help of an NGO to come to the rescue of the weavers and the artisans from the remote areas of the country.

She dreams of designing organic trousseau one day. Her role model is actor Priyanka Chopra who she considers a powerhouse of intelligence and class with amazing style.

Her advice to the aspiring fashion designers is to follow their dream and enjoy their work which only would help them excel.

She strongly believes that the aspiring fashion designers should think ahead of time and have a distinct style to make their designs class apart.
