Aida Couture – The Fashion Hub since 2008

Fashion designer Asma Gulzar has been passionate about designing clothes since her childhood. She graduated from Bal Vidya Mandir, Lucknow, before securing a Bachelors degree in Fashion Designing from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi. Asma started her career as a designer with a partner in New Delhi in 2003. Thereafter, she launched her very first independent Aida Couture – The Fashion Hub in 2008.

Since her childhood, Asma Gulzar has been fond of fairytales and also their fairy dresses. To become a fashion designer was her childhood dream. Therefore, she opted for this prestigious profession. “It is not just a profession for me. It is my dream which I am living,” she says.

Asma Gulzar is quite candid about the challenges she has faced in achieving her goals. However, she feels that problems are important part of her work and which make her stronger. “The problems help us to be more creative and do things differently,” she says.

Asma Gulzar derives immense inspiration from the Indian nobility and royalty. The reasons, according to her: “Because their designs are rich, creative, innovative and elaborate.”

It goes to Asma’s credit that she is self empowered and has full and complete control and accountability on her life and circumstances. Despite this individuality, her family and friends are her strength because they always praise and appreciate her work and determination. The support from them makes her devote more time and energy in her work.

Asma looks back at her life so far and feels it has been pretty plain and beautiful. “I have been living a simple and beautiful life. When I lost my most precious thing, especially a person, this grief is unable to explain after those losses,” she says.

The setbacks notwithstanding, she thanks the Almighty, her parents and loved ones for their unconditional support in her times of adversity. They have made her think again and encourage her never to give up come what may. Having overcome the setbacks, she is determined enough to achieve the many fantastic goals which she has set for herself.
Asthma Gulzar’s role model is American-Belgian fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg, who is known for her wrap dress. Asma relates to Diane because the many similarities she shares with her.

To the upcoming fashion designers, her message is: “Showcase you own creativity instead of copying others.”
